GovBot Earthquakes & Landslides

Terms of use

Prepared 27 October 2026. These terms apply to GovBot Earthquakes & Landslides at earthquakes-api.govbot.ai, operated by Ideation Lab, Corp. The independent service supports historical public-record research. The ChatGPT directory plugin has not been published.

What the service is for

GovBot Earthquakes & Landslides helps you research public historical records: published earthquake catalog entries, ShakeMap and Did You Feel It? products for selected events, and mapped landslide inventory records. Briefs describe what those records show for the scope you supply.

What the service does not provide

  • Earthquake or landslide predictions or forecasts.
  • Current warnings or emergency alerts. For current conditions, follow official agencies and local authorities.
  • Site, building or structural safety determinations, or statements that a place is stable.
  • Geotechnical or engineering findings.
  • Legal, insurance, real-estate or disclosure determinations.

Source data and its limits

Briefs rely on records published by others. Those records can be incomplete, delayed, revised or wrong, and fields can be empty. Missing records, null values, a zero count or a source error do not mean there is no hazard. Ground-motion values are shown with their published units; when units are not published they remain unknown.

The service is provided as is. There is no warranty that data will be complete, accurate, current or available without interruption. Ordinary responses may be reused for up to 10 minutes; layer, state-boundary and ShakeMap metadata for up to 24 hours. These are reuse periods measured from retrieval, not the age of the underlying historical records or a guarantee that publishers have updated them.

Attribution and third-party terms

Agency pages, event pages and reference inventories linked in briefs keep their source attribution, including the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Census Bureau and the constituent inventories compiled in the USGS landslide inventory release. Original publishers’ terms may apply to their data and pages.

Independence

GovBot is independent. The service is not official and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Geological Survey, the Census Bureau, any other government agency, or OpenAI. It does not use agency logos.

Your use

Use the service for lawful research. Supply a state or public research coordinates; do not submit other people’s personal information. Check important figures against the linked source pages before relying on them.

Changes

These terms may change as the service changes. The date above identifies this version.
